Ashis Mondal (b. 1978) is an Indian painter. He formally began his artistic journey in 2001 after graduating with a B.V.A degree from The Indian College of Arts & Draftsmanship (Rabindra Bharati University). Later, while pursuing a Master’s degree in Folk Art at Kalyani University, he moved to Hyderabad to complete a course in 2D Animation and worked in the animation industry for nearly two years.
Eventually, Mondal dedicated himself fully to painting and established his practice as a full-time artist. Over the past twenty-five years, he has held two solo exhibitions and participated in more than one hundred group exhibitions. He has also been invited to take part in around twenty art camps organized by government and private institutions, galleries, and universities. His works are currently associated with galleries and private collectors in India, the USA, Dubai, London, Singapore, and Canada.
Mondal’s recent works explore forms influenced by Cubism. Although the horse remains his central subject, it is not merely depicted as an animal; rather, it functions as a powerful symbol of time, energy, and spirit. At the core of his artistic practice lies a search for positive energy that helps in understanding life and its deeper meanings.
